No matter how long it may take, hard work would definitely be recognized. Now since 2015 is just 5 days away its only right we give credit to all those who put in work in 2014. So from now till New Year’s we would be checking out the show stoppers of 2014. Today’s post is for my fly African sisters who at some point “broke the internet” (I’m still trying to figure out who came up with that phrase)
Kaakie seemed have had the female dancehall scene in Ghana on lock until all of a sudden some chick named MzVee just took over. MzVee has had great 2014, having chart topping collaborations with Ghanaian heavyweights such as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and Lazy of VVIP fame.
2. Cynthia Morgan Nigerian artiste, Cynthia Morgan had an amazing transformation this year. Signed to Jude “Engees” Okoye’s record label Northside Inc, Cynthia dominated the African music scene with both Dancehall and Afrobeats tracks. Although I watched her stage performance on TV one time and I didn’t really like it but on the plus side Cynthia has broken boundaries in this male dominated industry.
With her soulful and electrifying voice, Efya is one female act who continues to make Ghanaians proud internationally. She is also a living testament to the fact that one should not give up. Efya has been around for a minute, who can forget her in that talent show Stars of the Future
We can all admit that its one thing having a hit record in your country and another across the continent. Its safe to say that South Africa’s Bucie’s ‘Easy to Love’ was that one song that made her relevant across the motherland. Although I don’t understand parts of the hook all I know is yada yada yada….. you are so easy to love. Either way I love it!
5.Just like the Jefferson’s Mrs Balogun aka Tiwa Savage is moving on up. She is currently the best at what she does, from winning multiple awards to performing at the BET Awards LA Experience and getting married! It sure has been a blessed 2014 for Tiwa Savage.
6. BusiwaAfter writing and featuring in Dj Zinhle’s hit song titled ”My Name Is” Busisiwa is gradually becoming a ”go to”name in the dance music scene. With a Channel O Most Gifted Dance Music Video Award under her belt, Busisiwa is one to watch in 2015.
7.ChidinmaCapital Hill’s first lady Chidinma also had a pretty good 2014. Although she didn’t necessarily have a smash hit this year. Her 2013 chart topping ”Emini Baller” took her to higher heights. Chidinma can also brag of quite a number of endorsements proving that she is no push over.
If I had a pesewa for the number of times I heard Yemi Alade’s Johnny, I would be sipping on some margarita’s in my own house in Ibiza. Johnny was that track that brought in the checks for Yemi. Song was such a hit she had to do a french remix (Whaaaaaaaat) Can’t wait to see what she cooks up in 2015
9. Sheyi ShayI am still waiting for that PSA saying Sheyi Shay is signed to Starboy. Now I love the fact that she switched things up, especially with her personal style! When she first started lets not lie, it was soo snooze.com. Anyway Sheyi Shay has had a successful year.
10. Itz Tiffany
Although Itz Tiffany had a horrifying dilemma that almost ruined her. Lets face it, she is no stranger to scandals so lets not talk about that (no time for that) Now when the clocks ticks 12 am on the 01/01/15, Itz Tiffany can boast of signing to Fuse ODG’s Off The Ground Record label, having a chart topping single, performing at Notting hill carnival and others. Its safe to say it was pretty A-Ok year for Itz Tiffany.
That’s it for my Top African Female Acts of 2014 and yes it was in no particular order and very bias. Who are your top acts?
