These women are definitely game changers!
The May 2015 Issue of Essence magazine has 5 of the most powerful, talented and successful tale tellers on the cover.
Shonda Rhimes, Ava DuVernay, Debbie Allen,Issa Rae and Mara Brock Akil have all pushed boundaries gone past stereotypes
In the edition the ladies touch issues concerning women of color:
Now for those who refer to the new dominance of Black Women both on screen and behind the scenes as a “trend,” producer and creator of hit shows such as Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder – Shonda Rhimes had this to say
” The fact that Black women are heating up the TV world, in front of and behind the camera, is not a trend to be dissected. It’s an economic fact. There are more people of color than ever before…When the shows start doing bigger numbers than what they think are going to be their top ten shows, it becomes really hard to suggest that it’s a trend.”
Another exceptional icon Debbie Allen, who has spent ages in the entertainment industry sees hope and progress. She said
“I look at it as an opportunity. It is wide open and for the taking. When I first started, there were no women in the room, there were no Black people in the room.”
