#TopTips – Dealing With Verbal Abuse

Waddup, It’s been long since I wrote a top tips feature, anyway I hope you are great.
Being constantly talked to as if you are worthless sucks right? Verbal abuse does not only have an adverse effect on children in their formative years but also on adults too. Lets face it nobody wants to be talked to or treated like a dead beat.

If you find yourself in such a situation, not to worry I have got three tips to help ease the pain, whether its that thrash talking spouse, boss, parent or even friend you can’t get rid of

TIP 1

Remind  yourself that what others think of you is absolutely none of your business.

The most important thing is how you see yourself. Who cares if your significant other tells you you would never amount to anything. You are the the only one who knows your potential or the amazing things your capable of achieving. Keep a mental note and remind yourself constantly of your abilities and blessings. Oh laawd if fell like some counselor…smh

TIP 2

Communicate.

Some people come from an abusive background, to them talking down on others is a way of life. They see nothing wrong with shouting and making others feel insignificant. Have a tête-à-tête with your abuser. Let that person know that you do not appreciate his/her choice of words and that you would love it if he/she can use a much polite or civil tone.

Tip 3

Ignore

This is when the previous tip fails. If someone is acting a fool would you also behave as such? Don’t think so. Remember that its best to turn the other cheek and walk away. The chances of a verbal confrontation escalating into physical abuse and you know you are waay too fine to have a bruise.
