South Africa’s Sindiso Khumalo Introduces Her 2016 Spring/Summer Collection

‘Birds of Paradise’ is the latest spring/summer 2016 collection from South African designer Sindiso Khumalo. The designer who recently showcased her collection at Vogue’s Fashion Night Out in Milan was inspired by her new bundle of joy i.e her baby.
The new mummy on the block said ”With the arrival of my son, now 20 months ago, I became fascinated with this idea of what we create and what we leave behind when we bring life into the world. Whilst working in my studio, white on white handprints began to represent the idea of memory, the life before the the new life held within a print. Whilst bright dynamic digital prints began to speak of a the new life that was created after birth. Many handmade textile techniques have been explored, including flocking and foiling, giving a 3D quality to the fabric. We drew inspiration for the design of the collection from the traditional dress of the South African Venda women and the traditional beadwork created by the South African Zulu Women”
