Jacob Zuma has finally resigned as South Africa’s president. This comes as a surprise because just some hours ago during a telecast via SABC, Zuma talked about how he had no intention of stepping down and vehemently denied that he was disregarding his party. What could have caused his decision? Well Zuma’s announcement came after the ANC (his party) called for a no-confidence vote in him.
Jacob Zuma has faced quite a number of corruption charges for some time now. Even though he has denied all charges, he faces more than 783 allegations of corruption relating to a 1990s arms deal. South Africa’s Constitutional Court even ordered Jacob Zuma to pay back millions of dollars in public funds spent on refurbishing his private homestead.
During his resignation speech, Jacob Zuma disclosed….
“No life should be lost in my name and also the ANC should never be divided in my name, I have therefore come to the decision to resign as President of the republic with immediate effect.”
