Sudanese Model Anok Yai Makes History At Prada’s Milan Fashion Week Show!

Sudanese model Anok Yai has made history at Prada’s fall 2018 runway show. It took over 20 years but finally it seems Prada is embracing diversity on the runway (or are they keeping up with the trends?) During the ongoing Milan Fashion Week, Anok Yai became the second black model to open a Prada show. The first was the baddest Naomi Campbell in 1997!

Apparently Prada has not featured any of our fabulous black queens on its runway since Naomi Campbell’s runway walk and British Model Jourdan Dunn‘s casting in 2008. It makes you wonder if some of these luxury international brands ever target people of colour/Africans as their customers. Anyway this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Since you are here check out my interview with Ghanaian model Mame Adjei. She talks being on America’s next top model, self confidence and more.
