Adekunle Gold is ready to take over London this Friday. As the Nigerian musician gears up for his ‘About 30’ concert, he opened up to BBC 1Xtra’s  DJ Edu about his sophomore album, dealing with depression and the stigma associated with mental health.

There is still a lot of public humiliation with regards to mental illness and it is so nice see an influential personality candidly talking about it. In the interview, Adekunle Gold revealed the inspiration behind his song, Fame. He said:

”I wanted to talk about depression. It is one thing people are not talking about…Mental health. A lot of people are depressed but they are afraid to throw the word around.. Depression. I guess it is scary. There is almost still like a stigma right now. You don’t want to say you are depressed before people start looking at you funny.”
