The rapper was reportedly on his way to perform at a show in England’s West Midlands region when he was involved in a fatal car accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A statement was issued by Cadet’s family on the rapper’s Instagram account. It reads:

“We the family of Blaine Cameron Johnson otherwise known as Cadet (Underrated Legend) would like to share the sad news that during the early hours of 9th February 2019 he passed away as a passenger in a taxi, en route to a performance. Right now we the family appreciate your patience and will share with you any information as and when we can.”

Rapper, Krept who is the cousin of the deceased, shared an emotional tribute on social media.

”Your last words to me were literally “Just know i love you, for real for real” and i am so happy that was our last convo. I am so so broken right now cuz. I love you and i am so proud of you. You finally started getting the recognition you deserved. And to everyone just so you know he actually felt the love and recognition and he was so grateful for it. The cleanest hearted person. We would literally do anything for each other. Rest up cuzzy. I will keep your name alive until my last breath. Love you cuz❤️💔😪 Long Live @callmecadet”

Wretch 32, Stormzy, Deno, Ms Banks, Steff London, Lethal Bizzle among a host of other UK rappers and celebs all took to social media to offer their condolences.

Rest in peace Cadet. Thank you for the memories. Thank u for always keeping the same energy when we bump into each other. One of the most humble and modest people I’ve met. You and your talents will be deeply missed 😞 RIP— Biz (@LethalBizzle) February 9, 2019

@Callmecadet my bro. You looked after man and made sure I was always good.
