Four supermarkets in Accra have been shut down by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for selling unregistered products. The Chinese-owned supermarkets located in Osu are; Jia Hua Agricultural Trade Company, Panda Mart, Downwind Sail and Hauang Jia YI Limited. Their unregistered products were reportedly labelled in Chinese.
According to the Ghanaian Times, the supermarkets will be sanctioned to pay administrative fine of at least GH¢25,000 each. A team from the FDA in collaboration with the police, last Thursday, put under lock and key the supermarkets, which were selling pharmaceutical drugs, cigarettes and food (consumables). The FDA disclosed that they would supervise the supermarkets to relabel its products in English.
