The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has shut down ZXZ Company Limited, a Chinese-owned company producing ”Moonda” brand of mattresses. The company, located in Afienya-Accra, was closed down for using uncertified products. ZXZ was reportedly using polystyrene instead of polyurethane to produce sleeping mattresses.
George Anti, the Head of Special Products Unit at GSA explained that the polystyrene material used for producing the mattresses is meant for packaging electrical gadgets. Thereby making it harmful for public use.
During the special operation, GSA officials also found out that the Chinese-owned company was assembling televisions, sound bar speakers, and fridges under the brand name Asano in Ghana without registering with the Ghana Standards Authority.
