The funeral service of former South African minister Pravin Gordhan has taken place at the Durban ICC on Thursday, 19 September 2024.
The funeral was attended by many South African dignitaries including President Cyril Ramaphosa who delivered the eulogy.
Pravin Gordhan served as South Africa’s Minister of Finance from 2009 until 2014 and again from 2015 until 2017. The 75 year-old also served as Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2014 until 2015, and also as Minister of Public Enterprises from February 2018 until March 2024. Gordhan retired from politics after South Africa’s 2024 general elections.

The former South African minister was actively involved in politics since the 1970s. Gordhan was a member of the ANC/SACP underground movement. He was even detained three times by the apartheid government.
Gordhan allegedly passed away on September 13, 2024 after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Vanitha and their daughters Priyesha and Anisha.
He was qualified as a pharmacist at the University of Durban-Westville and completed a postgraduate diploma in economics at the London School of Economics.
